The Building and Codes Department is responsible for issuing various permits, conducting code inspections, enforcing property standards, and coordinating meetings of the Planning and Zoning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals. 

Planning and Zoning meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Greenbrier City Hall. The Zoning Board of Appeals meets immediately after the regularly scheduled Planning and Zoning meeting. Planning and Zoning meetings and Appeals meeting are open to the public. Everyone is invited to attend.

The City of Greenbrier Planning and Zoning Board will meet on the following dates in 2018:

Anyone interested in building in Greenbrier will need to come by the City Hall to submit or pick up an application for a permit.

Building permits for construction are calculated using the following:

Square feet of the project is multiplied by the current rate in the International Code Council's Building Valuation Data schedule. The valuation is then calculated to find the cost of the permit. The amount of the permit calculation is broken down by the following:

$15.00 for the first $1000.00

$5.00 for each addition $1000.00 thereafter

The City of Greenbrier requires a permit for residents that have a pool. A pool permit is based on the cost of the pool. There are additional regulations and requirements for pools. Therefore, we encourage any person interested in installing a pool call or come by the Codes office prior to purchase.

The pool permit scale is as follows:

Up to $5,000.00 $  75.00
$5,000 to $10,000 $100.00
$10,000 to $15,000 $150.00
$15,000 to $20,000 $200.00
$20,000 and up  $250.00

All permit fees include an initial inspection to the finished site. Any site that requires a re-inspection a $35.00 fee is assessed.

Property Standards

Our Property Standards Officer, Sonny Hill, enforces the property standards that have been set forth by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.  The City has adopted and follows the 2009 International Property Maintenance Code. These standards regulate and govern the conditions and maintenance of all property, buildings and structures; by providing standards to ensure structures are safe, sanitary, and fit for occupation.  It is the responsibility of the Property Standards Officer to inform property owners of a violation of a City Code.

Do Your Research.....Before placing a secondary structure on your property. It is the homeowner's responsibility to check the subdivision regulations or covenants associated with the property.
